Foundations

  • International Association for the Promotion of Co-operation with Scientists from the New Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (INTAS)
Its aim is to promote co-operation in research and development between scientists of the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (NIS) and scientists of Western Europe. Funding received from its Members enables INTAS to support East-West collaboration in key areas of fundamental and applied research.
INTAS focuses its support on joint research projects and scientific networks. As INTAS support is mainly targeted for NIS scientists, the share for West European project participants is a maximum of 20% of the funds committed by INTAS to a joint research project.
INTAS projects cover exact and natural sciences as well as economics, human and social sciences. INTAS abstains from military research and from any political and commercial activities.
  • The U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF)
for the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union, is a private, non-profit charitable organization that was created by the United States Government as an American response to the declining state of science and engineering in the former Soviet Union (FSU). The CRDF seeks to address this issue by fostering opportunities for collaborative projects between FSU and U.S. researchers, by encouraging the growth of productive civilian employment opportunities for former FSU defense scientists, and by taking advantage of new opportunities to pursue these goals in a framework of mutual benefit which promotes the values of democratization and market economy.
All activities funded by the CRDF must be oriented toward non-defense objectives and must be carried out in a civilian environment. They may include both basic and applied science and engineering activities, including technological development which is part of the innovation process leading to commercial products.
