The annual International Winter School on Semiconductor Physics is being organized by Ioffe Institute during February 27 – March 2, 2019 in Zelenogorsk, not far from St. Petersburg.

In 2020, the School is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize winner, academician Zhores Alferov. The School Programme focuses on physics and technology of nanoheterostructutes. The lectures on other hot topics in modern physics are also welcome. The lectures addressed to advanced undergraduate and graduate students and young scientists will be given by leading Russian and Foreign scientists. Traditionally, the Programme includes a lecture on the last year Nobel Prize in Physics. The 2019 Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to the astronomers and astrophysicists: James Peebles (USA) — for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz (Switzerland) — for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star. The Programme includes also a lecture on lithium-ion batteries: the 2019 Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded to John Goodenough (USA), Stanley Whittingham (USA) and Akira Yoshino (Japan) «for the development of lithium-ion batteries». In addition, attention will be paid to the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic law of chemical elements by D.I. Mendeleev in 1869.

Every Winter School holds a competitive session with young physicist presentations based on their own original works selected by the Program Committee.

School Proceedings include abstracts of lectures and young scientists’ presentations. The number of participants is limited by 110 people.

Co-organizer of the Winter School: Helios hotel.
