Michael Mizerov, Chair (Center for Microelectronics) Elena Solov'eva, Secretary (Ioffe Institute) Nikita Vsesvetskii (Ioffe Institute) Alexander Smirnov (Ioffe Institute) Scope:
The
nitrides of group III elements constitute a new class of compound
semiconductor materials with a great potential for applications in
optoelectronics and high-power and high-temperature electronics. These
materials are also promising for the development of solar cells adapted for a
wide region of the solar spectrum. The objective of the Symposium is to bring together active Russian and Taiwanese specialists engaged in the studies of the fundamental properties of III-nitrides and the development of the MOCVD and MBE growth of epilayers and heterostructures based on III-nitrides and its solid solutions. It is expected that a simultaneous discussion of technological problems and the new data on the fundamental properties of III-nitrides will allow achievement of a better understanding of the state-of-the-art and existing challenges and will stimulate further scientific activities in many research groups in Russia and Taiwan. Also, it can lead to establishment of new personal contacts between active members of the III-nitride research communities in both countries, enhancing future bilateral scientific and technological collaborations. The Symposium topics will include:
- III-nitride material properties - Growth and optical studies of
III-nitride nanostructures (quantum wells, wires and dots) - Device applications of
III-nitrides (LEDs, lasers, transistors, etc.). Location and date:
The Symposium will be held on June
22 - 24, 2005 in St Petersburg. The Venue will be located at the Prince
Kochubey Palace in Pushkin - a most famous suburb of St Petersburg. This is the time of the so-called
"White Nights" in St Petersburg and we are certain that you
will also enjoy the many cultural places that St Petersburg and its
suburbs offer. Language:
All
contributions should be presented in English which is the official language
of the Symposium. Symposium Format:
The
Symposium programme will comprise 21-22 reports selected by the International
Programme Committee on the basis of the abstracts submitted by the authors.
Main criteria for paper acceptance are originality, significance of presented
results, quality and completeness of the abstracts. The contributed talks
will be presented in a single-session format at oral sessions. The time allotted
for oral presentation is 30 minutes. This time includes 5 minutes for
discussion. An overhead and PC projector will be available. Submission of Contributions:
Authors
are kindly requested to submit a one-page abstract of their contribution
(about 2000 symbols including title, name(s) of author(s) and affiliation(s))
in Word for Windows file. The deadline for abstracts is March 1, 2005. All abstracts from Russia have to
be sent by e-mail: valery.davydov@mail.ioffe.ru All abstracts from Taiwan have to
be sent by e-mail: gwo@phys.nthu.edu.tw The file name should include the
name of the principal author (for example, "Ivanov.doc"). The name
of the principal author who will present a paper at the Symposium should be
underlined. Accepted abstracts published in the program booklet will be
available at the beginning of the Symposium. Registration Fee:
There
is NO fee for the participants of the Symposium. Registration:
To
be put on the mailing list and receive the current information on the
Symposium, please, fill in the Registration
Form and send it to the Organizing Committee. The form may be sent by
e-mail or fax. Accommodation:
The
majority of the symposium participants will be accommodated at the hotel "Moscow"
located in the downtown of St Petersburg (Ploschad Aleksandra Nevskogo,
2) in single and double rooms at a rate of about 160 USD and 220 USD per
night, respectively (breakfast included). Rooms will be booked from June 21
to June 24, 2005. Additional nights before and/or after the symposium can be
arranged if requested early enough. Slight variations in the room rates are
possible in June. Participants will have lunch and
dinner at the Symposium site. Payment:

have any questions concerning payment for accommodation. Arrival and departure:
A
representative of the Local Organizing Committee will meet participants at
the Airport or Railway stations. Please inform us about the date and time of
your arrival and the number of flight or train. Passport and Visa:
Taiwan
participants traveling to Russia must have a valid passport (its expiry date
should be not earlier than 6 months after the date of visitor's departure
from Russia) and an appropriate visa. To get a visa, a visitor has to
submit to a Russian Embassy or Consulate an official letter of invitation
authorized by the Russian Ministry for Internal Affairs. Each foreign participant will
timely get such a letter if he (she) fills-in the relevant fields of the
Registration Form and sends this form together with a copy of the first pages
of a passport (where all personal data are available) to the Secretary of the
Organizing Committee by April 1, 2005, at the latest. A copy of the
passport pages should be sent preferably by e-mail as attached graphic file
or by fax. The Organizing Committee cannot send the official invitation
earlier than 40 days after receiving all papers mentioned above. Participants are strongly advised
to follow these recommendations and to apply for a visa immediately after
receiving an original copy of the invitation to ensure that the visa is
issued timely. Please, check with your local Russian Consulate/Embassy about
required documents to obtain the visa and visa processing time and visa fee In summary, steps to obtain the visa are the
