A review is given of the approach of an optical collider where a strong laser pulse induces in a nonlinear medium an inhomogeneity moving with relativistic speed, and weaker counter-propagating radiation reflects from such a mirror with the giant Doppler frequency shift. The coefficient of reflection can exceed unity in some cases. For regimes of inhomogeneous waves, the frequency of reflected radiation occurs to be complex.
