DEPARTMENT OF THEORETICAL ASTROPHYSICS
Research Interests
- SPECTROSCOPY OF QUASARS
AND COSMOLOGY
Analysis of physical conditions and chemical compositions
in absorbing material at large cosmological distances from absorption spectra
of quasars with large redshifts. In particular:
- Search for molecular H2 clouds which existed in the early
epochs and played key role in formation of stars of the first generation.
- Checking possible variation of fundamental physical constants during the
cosmological evolution as predicted by some modern theories
(multidimensional cosmologies of Kaluza-Klein type, the supersymmetic Grand
Unification theory, the supersstring theory).
- PHYSICS OF NEUTRON
STARS
Studies of internal structure and thermal evolution; thermal
emission from the atmospheres; evolution of magnetic fields; electrodynamics
and their magnetospheres; interpretation of multiwavelengh observations.
