Laboratory of
Spectroscopy of Solid State

Head of the laboratory Dr. A. N. Starukhin

Logo of the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute Ioffe Institute

The laboratory performs fundamental studies
of electronic, vibrational and photonic properties
of semiconductors, insulators, and the stuctures consisting of these materials
by means of
optical, microwave and phonon spectroscopy.

Main scientific interests and research areas

  • Excitonic spectroscopy of A2B6 and A3B5 crystals, nanostructures and solid solutions.
  • Spectroscopy and magneto-optics of semiconductor  nanostructures.
  • Raman specstroscopy of advanced material.
  • Spectroscopy of insulating crystals, nanocrystals, solid solutions and glasses doped with rare-earth and transition metal ions.
  • Photonic crystals and metamaterials.
  • Spectroscopy of carbon-based nanomaterials.
  • Growth and studies of epitaxial insulators.
  • Optical studies of nonequilibrium high-frequency phonons in insulators and semiconductors.
  • Optically induced electronic processes in insulators and ferroelectrics, doped with iron group and rare-earth ions, studied by optical spectroscopy, photoelectric measurments and electronic paramagnetic resonance.
  • Raman spectroscopy of phase transitions.
