ISSW-27 welcome to St.Petersburg!

Founded in 1703 by the great reformer, tsar Peter I, St.Petersburg was intended to be a capital from its very beginning. The same time, it became a cradle of the Russian science - Academia Scientarum Imperialis Petropolitana (since 1724). Through centuries the city combined the glamour of the imperial court and the intensive intellectual life. Since the official capital has moved to Moscow, and after a series of historical troubles, we still have scientific potential of a number of academic and public, scientific, educational and R&D organisations. Laboratories and departments related to SW research are in:
- St.Petersburg University
- St.Petersburg Technical University
- University of Aviation Industries
- Baltic State Tech. University
- Academy of Civil Aviation
- Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering
- Institute of Problems of Electrophysics
- and many others, sometimes not widely known due to specific customers involved in SW research

Cultural heritage of the city and the artistic treasures accummulated in its museums are attractive for tourists. An illustrated history of St.Petersburg can be found at the following web site:

and a virtual tour of the city at:
