Behind-the-Limb and Partially Occulted Solar Flares, Found in Continuous Konus-Wind Observations
Behind-the-limb flare is a flare with footpoints occulted by the solar limb and seen by a terrestrial observer if the emission source is located high in the corona.
The presented preliminary list contains candidates in behind-the-limb flares and in partially occulted flares, found in continuous Konus-Wind (KW) observations in HXR range. Emission sources were localized according to spatial data from different instruments (RHESSI, NoRH, NRH, SSRT, SOHO/EIT, SOHO/MDI, SDO/AIA and SDO/HMI, STEREO/EUVI(A/B)), also helioviewer and RHESSI browser tools and solarsoft package were used. The flare was added to the list, if the source was located on the solar limb or above the limb. The flare was classified as a partially occulted candidate, if there was an active region on the visible solar disc near the source, or as a behind-the-limb candidate, if corresponding active region was completely closed by the solar limb.
The table contains flare date, approximate times of the beginning and the end of KW observations, KW mode (waiting/triggered) and event type (behind-the-limb/partially occulted). Clicking the flare date will open the page with additional information: source coordinates (if available), instruments used for source localization, instruments observed the flare in microwave and ultraviolet ranges, the presence of gamma-emission and the observational instrument, the presence and the speed of corresponding coronal mass ejection based on LASCO catalog, and the presence of previous publications on this flare.
