The ISIS-21 program is intended to provide scientifically valuable meeting and to give some entertainment too.

  • Monday's program will contain a 1-hour city sightseeing tour (for participants and companions together) in the Medieval center of Riga, before departure for Ratnieki.
NB!: it will be walking tour, take care to put on footwear suitable for walking on stone pavements.
NB!: The detailed program of the first day of ISIS-21 can be downloaded here.
  • On Tuesday, the companions will be taken for a bus tour to Sigulda, including Sigulda castle, Krimulda, Gauja walley, Turaida manor and Gutmana cave. Duration of the tour is about 4 hours. NB!: It is a bus tour, but some walking is also considered, so comfortable shoes are necessary. In the afternoon several craftsmen are invited to give a show and master classes of their crafts. All evening cultural events will be open for all the registered attendees and their companions.
  • On Wednesday, the companions will be taken for a bus tour to Ligatne, including the historical complex of paper mill with its workers' settlement and the Ligatne nature trails, a sort of safari park, part of Gauja National Park. NB!: A good deal of walking is considered, comfortable shoes are necessary. After lunch, with good weather, an excursion to picturesque Ungura lake is planned for those companions who are interested in outdoor swimming. The route to the lake includes crossing Gauja river on a manpower driven ferry, so the capacity of this trip is limited. In the evening a concert of Dandari folk ensemble will present some typical Latvian folk dances and songs.
  • On Thursday we plan to arrange the Symposium tour, participants and their companions spend all day together. In the morning the buses start for Cesis. A guided tour to Cesis castle will take about 1 hour (NB!: climbing to the tower is considered). Then the same buses bring us to Ligatne resort, where an excursion to the secret Soviet bunker will be arranged. Lunch will be also served underground. In the evening we will have a simposium's banquet. Not a formal one. It will be served in the open air (if the weather allows that).

Usually, weather in the first week of August in Latvia is good, but the probability of rain exists. Please consider taking umbrellas.

During the whole stay of ISIS-21 people at Ratnieki, local sporting and recreational facilities will be available to everybody. Ball games, croquet, badminton can be payed there. There is also a small swimming pool (outdoors). Surrounding forests and fields invite people for recreative walks.
